Flowers for Mom

Rockville, MD, USA
2021, 12” x 12”
Acrylic

My mother, an orphan from Korea moved to the US by herself with one suitcase in the 70s at 23 years old. Determined to make a better life for herself, she learned the language, worked office jobs, met my father, and opened several successful businesses and was able to send my sisters and me to college. She is hustled everyday 7 days a week to build her life and sacrificed so much for her children. She is also an artist and lover of flowers and gardens and now that she is retired she can finally pursue her hobbies. I admire her resilience, and strength to adapt to American life and be as selfless as she has been.
